About

I remember sitting in a classroom, horrible fluorescent lighting, slightly shabby beige walls, one teacher and 30 eager students . It was the first class of what would be a 4 year journey into the world of everything photographic, four nights a week for four years studying everything from light and optics to composition and design, even mathematics in photography and let me tell you there is a lot of maths in photography.

The teacher had a question for us "What sort of photographer do you want to be? ". "I want to be a fashion photographer", "I want to be a photojournalist", "I want to photograph architecture", "I want to photograph for editorial and be published in magazines", "I want to be a commercial photographer". As the question was answered around the room it was apparent that I was in a minority of one.

"I want to be a wedding photographer" the silence was deafening, the teacher coughed as she struggled to ask her next question "Why?".

"Well the way I see it, I will get to photograph a beautiful woman in probably the most expensive designer gown she will ever wear, tell a story with my images that will be cherished for life, photograph some of the finest architecture in this city and hopefully around the world, have my images published in magazines and one day own my own studio. More importantly I get to share in the most intimate occasion of a couples life while creating memories that will last for generations."

130 students started that course, 12 students graduated with a diploma 4 years later, 6 currently work as photographers.

I am one of the 6.

I have worked as a wedding photographer for the past 8 years for one of Sydney's best wedding/ portrait studios and now I have taken the plunge and gone it alone, as I did all those years ago in that classroom.
